Natural straight hair turning curly?

Does anyone know (in simple terms please) how someone's hair can go from being bone straight to curly? I have had straight hair for all my life (let's just say I am over 30) but in the past couple of years it has started to go naturally curly. I haven't had a perm since the 80's when it was the thing to do. My hair is really long and it has spiral curls in it now. Can someone tell me if they know why it would change like that now? BTW - no one else in my family has or has had naturally curly hair. No one.

Hormones sometimes have something to do with straight hair turning curly! My hair was very straight until puberty. I've also heard stories of women whose hair changes to curly from straight or vice versa before/during/after pregnancy, menopause and other major hormone changes.

I don't know what makes it happen, but it happened to my sister. She had straight hair like me, and when she was 12 it started to get wavy, and she now has perfect ringlets. Which she hates. I wish my hair would start to curl!

As one gets older hormones change. Sounds wierd, but true. I have had str8 hair, then wavy, then str8- it's exausting!!! My Doc says it's hormonal change and women normally go thru it. I am a stylist and have heard several complaints from clients! Pregnancies can also cause change in structure and texture.
